Iban interview

In today`s edition of Diario Vasco, you could read an interview with Iban. To make it short, Iban said that leaving Euskaltel was very hard, as he`s enjoyed his best days on the bike there. He left behind many good friends, and will surely miss the riders and the team. Further he spoke of his move to Saunier, denying Madariaga`s comments that the deal with Saunier was arranged a long time ago. Iban said he hadn`t even spoken to Saunier in August or September, and that he expected to stay with the Basque orange-clad outfit. Though, this didn`t happen, and he`s now with the Spanish-Swiss team. He hopes to reach top condition for the Giro, where he hopes to help his room-mate Simoni win the race. Of course he hoped to reach 2003 form, but if he would, was another matter he said. The last question was how many years of cycling he thought were left in him, and what he wanted to do afterwards. Iban said that he hoped to be able to race for another four years; but what he wanted to do afterwards he didn`t know.

I'm sure that Iban will be very good in Giro, because he will go there without pression, to help Simoni, far away of Spain and spanish press... He won't suffer the same pression as Tour. Aupa Iban

Think so too. Looking forward to the Zoncolan and Tre Cime Lavaredo stages; on such steep mountains, Iban`s the best.
